Round Up: Cannes Fim Festival Fashion!

It’s all go at this year’s Cannes Film Festival as the A-Listers flock to the French Riviera for the occasion, which means there’s going to be some show stopping fashion moments along with epic fashion fails by the dozen! To say we’re excited is an understatement, so let’s have a look at what Cannes has produced so far!

eva longoria cannes film festival 2012

First up is Desperate Housewives hottie Eva Longoria, who decided to don not one, but two gowns for the occasion. Heaven forbid being papped in the same dress twice! Her day ensemble consisted of a mass of frothy pale pink corsage tulle which pooled out in a vast train behind her, it reminded us slightly of a wedding cake, but that can only mean it’s good enough to eat right?! With a heavily embellished upper half this Marchesa gown leaves us feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Whilst her transformation for the evening gala night celebrations into black Alberta Ferretti was far more fierce with strips of black and blush merging together amongst a plethora of black chiffon.

Next we saw the walking fashion disaster that is the ‘androgynous’  or just plain butch shall we say Tilda Swinton, firstly she donned a gold silk number with origami finishing by Haider Ackerman which was ill fitting and her face was equally as scary to boot! Then, instead of glamming up for the evening as the other celebrities did, she opted for a plain black tux , which looked like one she'd taken from her dad’s wardrobe. Is it possible to get it this wrong twice in one day? Apparently so!

willow smith cannes film festival

Although it looks like not everyone decided to make an effort for the occasion as Willow Smith stepped out with her mother Jada Pinkett Smith in converse teamed with long socks, a vivid pink shaved head and clashing bright orange cargo shorts. We can’t help but take a step back and say what the hell were you thinking?! We’re just hoping this wasn’t an attempt at a fashion statement as we have to say she’s failed miserably, maybe she had a bump on the head? Someone inspect the baldness to find out!

berenice bejo cannes film festival 2012

Looking regal in blood red Louis Vuitton with stunning Jimmy Choo accessories The Artist actress Berenice Bejo is the true definition of a show stopper. In a rush of flowing red chiffon that’s nipped in at the waist with a neat band it’s clear this little lady is going to outshine the rest on the red carpet with her effortless style and flair that oozes sophistication and timelessness. This woman is someone to watch out for as she steps it up in the style stakes and even gives the lovely Eva a run for her money!

diane kruger at cannes film festival 2012

Lastly Diane Kruger rocks maroon lace up Versace Versus with a pleated full skirt and subtle Jimmy Choo accessories, as well as this whisp of aqua blue chiffon that like Eva engulfs the entire red carpet but with this woman as part of the panel we’re going to see a lot more of her and her amazing outfit choices!

The season that puts the fear of God into most is nearly upon us…bikini season! But never fear, as this year we have a new find that will not only make it a million times easier, but will actually make us ladies feel pretty damn good about ourselves. Forget an unflattering one piece as we try and cover up any unsightly bulges or ‘squidgy’ bits, we have found you a brand that embraces womanly curves and is just downright sexy. Be prepared to have men falling at your feet is all I can say!

beach bunny

Back in 2004 a saviour was born, in the form of Beach Bunny Swimwear from former swimwear model turned designer Angela Chittenden who is now the founder and designer of the company. This was a bold move for a woman with no formal design training and was told by many that her designs were far too risqué to make it, and that high end swimwear would never be a concept to catch on, however, she went on to prove them wrong. And in a big way!

Angela felt swimwear needed a revamp and she was just the woman to do it, “Either they (swimsuits) were too conservative with too much coverage, or they weren’t very classy. There was nothing out there that was sexy and elegant. So I decided to design my own.”  And boy, are we glad she did! With a celebrity clientele including Kim Kardashian, Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Lopez and Fergie all donning Beach Bunny the brands status is beginning to rocket. It focuses on innovative designs, luxury fabrics and sexy styles that make a bold statement and instead of following trends this is the brand that sets them.

For this season we have a few firm favourites, as the range mixes up being overtly sexy with subtly sexy, whilst remaining playful and has fun names to compliment the original designs.  The beautifully named Sea of Love from their Shipwrecked collection is a bikini guaranteed to make you stand out from the crowd and still hold a fashionable edge for the beach.

However, if you’re more of a simple girl at heart opt for their innocent looking Marry Me bikini from the Beach Bunny Bride collection, you may not be honeymooning but no one has to know that right?! Or if you love to be out there and love getting adventurous on the beach check out Kiss a Girl from their Bronze collection which is a black one piece halter guaranteed to make you a ticking sex bomb.

Beach Bunny also creates all the perfect beach accompaniments, from sarongs and cover ups, to shorts and jackets, if you can bear to cover up world’s hottest bikini that is! Pop yourself over to the Beach Bunny swimwear site to check it out, but make sure you have a credit card handy as if you’re anything like us you’ll fall in love with everything!

Spree Vs Steal: The Tribal Dress Debate

May 17, 2012 by Amelia Saw at 2:09pm

tribal dress 2012

The Flared Caraz dress from Anthropologie is the perfect meeting point between bold tribal print and a classically western silhouette. The bright melding of colours and pertinent graphic pattern creates an eye catching effect, whilst the softly pleated white hem is designed to dance whimsically around the wearer’s legs.  For daytime, this dress can easily be paired with sandals or plimsolls, or dressed up for evening with a statement necklace.

On the cheaper end of the scale, H&M provides us with their version of the tribal dress for only £7.99.  Simarly, this dress boasts a bold tribal print, that is comparatively vibrant and less refined than The Flared Caraz dress.  Whilst the loose wide fitting style doesn’t accentuate the figure, its short length gives the wearer the opportunity to show off those sky scraping pins.  The braided shoulder straps also gives it a feminine, beachy feel.  Pair this dress with a straw fedora and some strappy sandals for a fun in the sun day time look.

So how do they compare against one another if we ignore the dramatic difference in price?  Well, The Flared Caraz dress has the advantage of being able to be dressed up for a more sophisticated look, whilst H&M’s dress is purely for beach or lazy days in the park.  It does however have the advantage of being machine washable, whilst Anthrogologie’s lil’ number is hand wash only.  (Yawn).

The final call is up to you girls- do you splash the cash or stick with the more affordable ensemble?

Meet Carleigh Wamberg, she's a jewellery designer at Fathom and Form and CCA student, and whilst she may be making all us Londoners jealous with her enjoyment of that sunny San Francisco weather, we've got to admit that this girl is doing it in style!  Carleigh has gone for a classic gothic romantic look by teaming a soft and sweet white lace dress with heavy knee high lace up boots.  She's then added modern edge to the look with a graphic statement necklace and a bold black trilby.  Slinging a simple cross-shoulder bag over her arm, Carleigh has perfected a statement look without looking like she is trying too hard.

The store will be home to Temperley London, Alice by Temperley and Temperley Bridal and will cover two of the six floors of the building, the rest of the floors will house the company’s press and wholesale showrooms and financial and ecommerce offices. The store is currently being designed by a specialist interiors company and will take on the feel of a French salon as the brand start a fresh from their move from their debut store in Notting Hill that they’ve had since 2002. This store also acted as the head office for the brand.

"It just felt like the right time to enter a new phase of expansion,"Temperley told Vogue this morning. "It's an important time to be in Britain and after 10 years we felt that we really needed a flagship. The recession slowed us down a little, but we're much more solid now about our plans and the future. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time and it was important to me to be more central and to be able to show the world what we've been up do. It's nice not to feel hidden."

marks and sopencer vintage

Have you ever wondered what underwear the Queen Elizabeth was wearing when she was coronated?  Perhaps that’s not a fantasy that you’d like to indulge in.  Never-the-less to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee Marks & Spencer have released a range of vintage inspired lingerie to celebrate the Queen’s six decades on the throne.

m&s underwear

Five lingerie models stood outside Marks & Spencer’s Oxford Street store today, presenting the fifties inspired collection to crowds.  The lingerie was perfected in silk, satin, lace and mesh and presented a modern interpretation of famous fifties styles.  The famously pointed conical bra was represented by a dusky pink style with a softly conical shape.  High waisted briefs also made a reappearance as did the camisole knicker, and of course, the sexy suspender.marks and spencer underwear

Perhaps the best draw card of the collection though is that whilst the lingerie appears to be vintage, it has the advantage of modern advancements in underwear technology- which ultimately means comfort.  Gone are the days of painful boning and fabric without give.  And after all let’s face it, vintage may be in right now, but the thought of wearing actual second hand vintage underwear- ewwww.
